Mister Johnson
In the setting of British Colonial Nigeria in 1923, Mister Johnson stands out as a unique figure. As a learned black man, he navigates between two worlds, neither fully belonging to the native community nor seamlessly integrated into British society. Employed by the local British magistrate, he identifies strongly with English culture despite never having set foot in England. Constantly plotting and strategizing to improve his circumstances, his ambitions often lead him into troublesome situations.
